thumbcramps:

hi guys! this is a comic i made for a final in my comics in literature class. we had to do a research paper on a topic we’d discussed in class and then accompany it with a comic with a relevant subject. my paper was about hyper-sexualization of women in comic books, but i decided to broaden it out here as well as personalize it and make myself the subject and discuss something i’ve been subjected to in the convention circuit and on the internet as well as thousands of other women, as well as give a cue to thought about how the comic book industry as well as the video game industry and even just media in general (all of which are male dominated) push such ridiculous pressures onto girls and women.

also, it feels kind of silly to have to add this since i hope it’s obvious, but i am very aware that there are men that don’t subscribe to this attitude, and am incredibly grateful that these issues are brought to light to people other than the ones that are subjected to it.

anyway haha i have literally been staring at this for 9 hours i don’t even know which direction is up anymore. thanks for reading!!!

All the feels. I’m NOT saying ALL men fall into this stereotype. Not at all. But, it does exist. And it scars.

Some of you may have noticed this Space Invader patch newly added to the bottom right of my site. It is a dedication to my best friend Tru who passed away nearly 4 years ago. I’ve been wanting to add a little reminder of him so Chris drew this for me. If you click on the patch on my website it will tell you about Tru. He was the best.

Latest Painting - ‘I Just Wanted To Say ‘Hello” (Doctor Who)
My favorite painting, ever. Their hearts are hidden under those layers of acrylic. Literally, and figuratively speaking. Wherever this goes, I hope it’s hung somewhere where the sun hits it. I’d like that.
The original is up on eBay for three days right here, starting at $1
Prints available in my US store
and my UK / Rest of the World store

Thanks, as always, for your support and kindness. I enjoyed painting this one so much, I know that moment in particular struck a chord in a lot of people, myself included. I hope I’ve done it some justice :) x

@writinginbed: If you've got a minute

writinginbed:

At work we have a parent volunteer whose daughter is a first grader. This lady has been very chill and friendly despite how fast-paced and nutty things get on campus. She helps out her daughter’s teacher and she’s also helped out a bunch in the library. I thought it was very cool that she helped…

“Gilda got married and went away. None of us saw her anymore. There was one good thing: Laraine had a party one night, a great party at her house. And I ended up being the disk jockey. She just had forty-fives, and not that many, so you really had to work the music end of it. There was a collection of like the funniest people in the world at this party. Somehow Sam Kinison sticks in my brain. The
whole Monty Python group was there, most of us from the show, a lot of other funny people, and Gilda. Gilda showed up and she’d already had cancer and gone into remission and then had it again, I guess. Anyway she was slim. We hadn’t seen her in a long time. And she started doing, “I’ve got to go,” and she was just going to leave, and I was like, “Going to leave?” It felt like she was going to really leave forever.So we started carrying her around, in a way that we could only do with her. We carried her up and down the stairs, around the house, repeatedly, for a long time, until I was exhausted. Then Danny did it for a while. Then I did it again. We just kept carrying her; we did it in teams. We kept carrying her around, but like upside down, every which way—over your shoulder and under your arm, carrying her like luggage. And that went on for more than an hour—maybe an hour and a half—just carrying her around and saying, “She’s leaving! This could be it! Now come on, this could be the last time we see her. Gilda’s leaving, and remember that she was very sick—hello?”We worked all aspects of it, but it started with just, “She’s leaving, I don’t know if you’ve said good-bye to her.” And we said good-bye to the same people ten, twenty times, you know. And because these people were really funny, every person we’d drag her up to would just do like five minutes on her, with Gilda upside down in this sort of tortured position, which she absolutely loved. She was laughing so hard we could have lost her right then and there.It was just one of the best parties I’ve ever been to in my life. I’ll always remember it. It was the last time I saw her.”- Bill MurrayPlease do not forget to sign and pass along the petition to keep Gilda in Gilda’s Club. The name on the door matters.
