So, I thought about it and I have several issues with Local 10’s “apology”:
1. The anonymity of it all. If you are going to be a journalist and use your news site to attack, man/woman up and use your name. That goes for your apology as well.
2. No, no they are not a true Star Wars fan. The “please don’t hurt me, I’m one of you” doesn’t fly with me on this.
3. They gave an “oops, my bad you didn’t think I was funny” in regard to the slideshow and barely mentioned their weak first attempt at an apology (the one they then deleted and reposted the slideshow after). They didn’t even accept responsibility on these two points. It was “I guess you didn’t think it was funny” and “I guess you didn’t think it was sincere.” YOU. It’s not OUR fault. It’s THEIR fault.
4. Not one mention was made of how they handled the entire situation. All of the deleting and censorship of perfectly appropriate comments and people. It is HORRIBLE for a NEWS STATION to censor the HELL out of something like they did this.
Call me bitter, call me petty, but I’m not accepting this half-ass, half-truth apology.
It is still NOT OKAY.
We all must choose our own battles in life. Some we will win, some we will lose, and some we will wish we never fired up our light sabers for. But, that is part of life. It’s better to stand up and say “NO! THAT IS FUCKED UP AND NOT OKAY!” than to sit by and live in fear. When it goes from “Shut up douchebag” to “do us all a favor and go kill yourself you waste of air.” When it goes from “hey what are you reading?” to *zip* *flap* “here’s my junk.” When a news station posts photo after photo of genuine fans that enjoy something paired with belittling, mean-spirited, and pointless insults.
IT IS NOT OKAY
